A retired Sedgwick County firefighter who was active in community fund-raising efforts has died of COVID-19.  Richard Janne was 65 and he had been hospitalized and he died Wednesday.

Janne and his then-wife Nikki formed a Pink Heals Wichita chapter in 2010 to help women in fighting cancer.  Nikki had been diagnosed with breast cancer and she died in 2014.  Janne drove a pink fire truck that was named after Nikki for various fundraising events to raise money and awareness for cancer research.
