Wichita school board stays with district’s recommended COVID-19 plan

The Wichita school board has voted to stay with the recommended COVID-19 recovery plan that will be in place for the new school year.  The plan will strongly recommend that students, teachers and staff wear masks, regardless of their vaccination status.   Masks will not be required for them at this time.

The board voted 4-3 Monday night to stay with the plan, without any changes.

The plan does require masks for visitors to school buildings regardless of vaccination status, and under federal regulations, students who ride a bus to school will be required to wear masks.   The plan also has quarantine guidelines if there is an exposure.  There will be a continued emphasis on hand-washing, with hand sanitizer and supplies available for classrooms.  Teachers, students and staff will be urged to stay home if they are sick.

Board members urged teachers and students to get the vaccine if they are eligible, and to also wear masks.   District officials will continue to watch developments with COVID-19 and keep track of public health information.  Any changes in the plan would be brought to the school board for discussion or possible action.
