An inmate at the Winfield Correctional Facility died March 9th after testing positive for COVID-19. This is the second coronavirus-related death at Winfield and the 21st death for the Kansas corrections system.
Corrections officials said the inmate was a 57-year-old man serving a 130-month sentence for possession of drugs, possession of paraphernalia, and distribution of drugs. He had been in the prison system since 2018. He tested positive for the virus on February 3rd and was admitted to the hospital on February 13th.
