Kansas Gas Service answers questions about higher bills

With last week’s cold snap, there have been a lot of questions about the potential for higher gas bills.

As people across the country get their natural gas bills, there are reports of bills being several times higher than usual, thousands of dollars in some cases. Regulation varies between states and utility companies, so Kansans may see different rates than other regions. Kansas Gas Service has been fielding a lot of questions about the potential for higher bills, and sent out a message to customers in an effort to give them as much information as they can.

KGS says its too early to tell how much higher customers bills will be. The company says some of the gas they purchased during the arctic blast was more expensive than usual, but it’s not clear how that will impact customers. If you do receive a bill that’s drastically higher than usual, and cannot pay it all at one, KGS will work with you to set up a payment plan and spread the cost out. Kansas Gas Service also has the ability to work with state regulators to defer and extreme costs so customers are not negatively impacted.  You may also be in the middle of a billing cycle now, so continuing to conserve gas could help lower your upcoming bill.

There are services available to help people in need pay their utilities. If you did not get a message from Kansas Gas Service, you can read their full message by following the link below.
