The Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced Friday afternoon that a 6 year old died from COVID-19.
This is the first child death from the virus in the state.
The KDHE said that the child had died from the virus in November, but the death certificate was finalized this week–which is why it is being publicized now. No further details have been released.
206 deaths were also reported since Wednesday, which is the largest increase the state has seen so far. The total number of COVID-related deaths since the pandemic began is now over 4,101.
The number of Kansas residents that have been vaccinated rose to 7.8%.
