Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has announced the appointment of Amber Shultz of Lawrence as the new Secretary of the Kansas Department of Labor.

Shultz will serve as acting secretary until confirmation by the Kansas Senate.   The governor’s office said she has 25 years of experience in technology and innovation.  She has been working as General Manager of Municipal Services and Operations for the City of Lawrence.   She began her career as a Research Assistant at the Kansas Data Access and Support Center for the Kansas Geological Survey.   She has held a number of positions in Kansas and Missouri related to data and asset management.    Shultz has a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kansas.

Governor Kelly said in a press release that the Department of Labor needed someone who could lead the agency in its continued efforts to improve services for unemployed Kansans and the effort to overhaul an out-of-date information system.
