Sedgwick County moves into Phase 2 of COVID-19 vaccine plan

Sedgwick County is now scheduling appointments for Phase 2 of the COVID-19 vaccine plan, with participation restricted to people 90 and older who are not living in long-term care facilities.   The vaccine will also be available to health care workers who did not get the vaccine under Phase 1.

The county expects to receive less than 2,000 new doses of the Pfizer vaccine, and that won’t be enough to cover the population of people over 65 who are included in Phase 2.  The county will announce at a later time when people 65 to 90 years of age can begin making appointments, as more shipments of the vaccine come in.

The county is focusing on people 90 and older because they are likely to have serious complications if they test positive for COVID-19.   The Sedgwick County Health Department will provide the vaccine at INTRUST Bank Arena.    Local pharmacies have been providing the vaccine for residents and staff of long-term care facilities.

To schedule an appointment with the county, the individual or a caretaker will have to register online through the following site:

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly will announce Thursday that the state has officially moved into Phase 2 of the vaccination plan.   The phase is to include people 65 and older, people in congregate settings, and all high-contact critical workers, such as law enforcement officers.
