Two Wichita firefighters and one other person were taken to a hospital after a house fire Sunday night.
Crews were called to a neighborhood near 13th and Waco around 8 p.m., and they found a house on fire at 12th and Jackson. There was heavy fire on the second floor of a multi-family home, but it appeared that nobody was inside when the fire started.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital to get checked out for burns, and another was reportedly hurt by someone trying to get into the burning home. Police helped get this person under control and to a hospital. Another injured person was treated at the scene and not hospitalized.
It’s not clear how the fire started, and officials are not sure why two people tried to get into the home. The damage from the fire was estimated at $65,000.
