Proposal would delay winter sports at Kansas high schools

The Kansas State High School Activities Association is considering a proposal to delay the start of the winter sports season for high schools across the state.

The season would begin January 15th, and fans would not be allowed at events from the 15th through the 28th.   Limited numbers of fans would be allowed from January 29th through the rest of the winter season.

The proposal would reduce the basketball season to 13 games, wrestling to 12 events, swimming and diving to 6 events per athlete, and bowling would be limited to 8 matches.

Teams can practice until December 22nd, and there would be a moratorium on practices from December 23rd to January 1st.

The KSHSAA executive board has approved the plan, and it now goes to a special meeting of the board of directors on Tuesday, November 24th.
