Reno County approves new health order, COVID-19 deaths rise

Reno County’s health officer has issued a new order to limit the size of mass gatherings as COVID-19 cases continue to increase.

The order from Health Officer Karen Hammersmith requires masks in public places, and it also limits gatherings within a confined space to no more than ten people if social distancing cannot be maintained.  The order has exemptions for religious gatherings, schools, public buildings, arenas and shopping malls where people are generally not within six feet of each other for more than ten minutes, hospitals, and government operations.

Recreational and youth oriented sports activities can still take place, but attendance is limited to two people per participant, and the events will have to follow social distancing practices.

Reno County has reported four new deaths to bring its total count to 37.   The county has reported more than 3,700 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
