Sedgwick County begins final election count

Sedgwick County commissioners met Friday morning to begin the vote canvass for the November 3rd general election.

There were around 1,500 provisional ballots to consider plus ballots that had to be hand-counted and others that had concerns with signatures and other issues.  Commissioners decided which ballots to count and which ones would not be counted.

The commission will meet again Monday at noon to certify the final numbers and results from the general election.

One of the races that could be affected by the provisional ballots is the District Two County Commission Race.  Democratic challenger Sarah Lopez was leading incumbent Republican commissioner Michael O’Donnell in that race, but O’Donnell has said he will resign because of controversy over his involvement in a false political attack ad last year.
