Sedgwick County commissioners schedule special meeting on COIVD-19

With COVID-19 cases continuing to increase and hospitals at capacity for ICU beds, Sedgwick County commissioners have scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday to talk about steps to prevent further spread of the virus.

Commissioners will meet as the Sedgwick County Board of Health at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The county reported earlier that almost 180 patients are being treated at Ascension Via Christi and Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.  The two hospitals have reported they are at or near capacity for ICU beds.  They have had contingency plans to provide space for patients, but there are concerns about staffing.

The county is currently under a health order that requires the wearing of masks in public places and allows bars and nightclubs to stay open until 1 a.m.   The order is in effect through December 9th.   The county continues to urge people to wear masks, wash their hands frequently, and follow social distancing guidelines.
