Police have a 30-year-old man in custody after an assault that left his ex-girlfriend and her two-month-old son with serious injuries.
Police were called late Sunday night to a home in the 5100 block of East New Jersey Drive, in a neighborhood near 31st Street South and Oliver. They found a 25-year-old woman and her two-month-old son in a vehicle. Police said her former boyfriend and a 44-year-old man got into a verbal argument. The older man left, and the former boyfriend went into the home and strangled the woman to the point of unconsciousness, then he dropped the two-month-old child on the ground outside. The 44-year-old man returned and got into a fight with the boyfriend while the woman locked herself in a car with her son.
The former boyfriend was arrested for attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery. Information will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for the filing of charges.
