The ACLU of Kansas is asking the Wichita school district to rescind a disciplinary action that was taken against a Wichita teacher for a social media post.
The teacher posted a video on August 5th that voiced concerns about whether the district was prepared for a return to classes in the fall semester. The teacher recorded a temperature check and said she felt the thermometer was not working properly. The ACLU said district officials called the teacher into a meeting and warned her that she would face more disciplinary action if she continued to post comments on the district’s preparedness for in-person classes.
The ACLU has sent a letter to the district, saying the action was interfering with the teacher’s 1st Amendment right to free speech. The letter urged the district to rescind the write-up that was issued to the teacher.
