Citizens group plans appeal of judge’s ruling on Century II petitions

A citizens group has announced plans to appeal a Sedgwick County judge’s ruling that struck down their petitions to save the Century II Convention Center.

District Judge Eric Commer ruled in August that the petitions were valid in form, but they could not call for future binding elections on historic buildings.  He ruled in favor of the city of Wichita in its lawsuit against the petitions.    City council members have said they are still committed to a public vote on the future of Century II.

The group Save Century II has started raising funds to file an appeal, which will have to be filed by September 25th.   The group will have its headquarters open at 435 North Broadway on Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.   The group said it has an anonymous donor who will match contributions from the community.
