Kansas, Sedgwick County add to COVID-19 totals

Kansas added 23 COVID-19 deaths to its total as the number of positive cases rose above 45,000.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said Friday that the new deaths brought the total in the state to 481. No details were immediately released about the reason for the large increase.

The state also added 1,280 new COVID-19 cases from Wednesday to Friday, bringing the state’s confirmed total to 45,220 since the pandemic began. Amid the increases, some of the state’s largest districts, including Olathe and Blue Valley, have been backtracking on plans to cancel fall sports.

Sedgwick County added 60 cases on Friday to bring the county’s total for the pandemic to 7,222.   Five new deaths have been added to bring the total to 55.   More than 82,000 people have been tested.
