Harvey County jail inmate tests positive for COVID-19

Harvey County health officials said an inmate in the county jail has tested positive for COVID-19, the first confirmed case at the facility.

The inmate was recently taken into custody, and precautionary testing had identified him as a COVID-19 case.  All new inmates brought into the Detention Center are placed in a 14-day quarantine cell as a precaution before they are released to the general population.

The inmate who tested positive is now in isolation in the Detention Center, which has medical cells with negative pressure to keep air flow out of other areas of the facility.

The inmate was not considered to be a close contact with deputies or the general population, so no additional testing is expected.  Medical staff will continue to watch the health of the inmate.
