A 2-year-old golden retriever assigned to the WPD Bomb Unit will be named Boomer.
In May, the department put out a request for name suggestions, and Detective Stephanie Neal chose Boomer from the top five names that were submitted. Detective Neal and Boomer have passed their training and have been certified in explosives detection by the North America Police Working Dog Association.
Police are holding a meet and greet event for Boomer and Neal at 1 p.m. today.
