Kansas to release names, locations of active COVID-19 outbreaks

Governor Laura Kelly said Wednesday that Kansas will begin releasing the names and locations of active outbreaks of COVID-19 in Kansas.   The information will be released starting Wednesday, September 9th.

The governor said with children returning to school and college campuses reopening, the state is seeing the largest increase to date in outbreaks.  She said by sharing locations of the outbreaks, Kansans will be better informed about the threat of COVID-19 in their schools and communities.

The state was reporting 178 active outbreaks in the latest numbers.  There have been 43,940 cases from all 105 counties with 458 deaths reported.

Active locations will be released when there are five or more confirmed cases associated with the location.  For private businesses, the name of the business will only be released if there are 20 or more cases.

The information will be published weekly on Wednesdays on the COVID-19 dashboard on the website for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.  A number of other states are already providing this information.
