  • More COVID-19 cases reported at Hutchinson, El Dorado correctional facilities

Kansas corrections officials are reporting that one inmate at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility and five inmates at the El Dorado Correctional Facility have tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier this month, a staff member at each facility had tested positive.  That led to contact-tracing and testing at the facilities.

The resident at Hutchinson is a man over the age of 20.   The residents at El Dorado who tested positive are men in their 30s, 40s, 50s and one over age 70.  All of them did not have symptoms.

All six men and an additional four men identified as roommates have been moved to the Lansing Correctional Facility, which has been equipped to handle coronavirus cases.  The ten men and a man who tested positive at the Norton Correctional Facility have been placed in an isolation unit at Lansing.

There will be additional testing at Hutchinson and El Dorado, and corrections officials will work with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment on next steps.
