The board of education for Wichita Public Schools has approved three options for student learning in the upcoming school year. The board has also voted to delay the start of school until after Labor Day,. The district’s calendar committee will decide if the start date will be September 8th or 9th.
New teachers will report August 3rd and 4th and all teachers will start August 5th.
The learning options were approved during a special meeting Thursday:
a) Onsite: In-person learning.
In this option, students will participate in traditional, face-to-face instruction with
standard bell times and schedule, as well as enhanced health and safety
guidelines in place.
b) MySchool Remote: Online learning.
In this option, students will participate in full online learning while remaining
enrolled at their neighborhood or magnet school. Learning will be paced with all
students in the classroom. Technology devices will be provided to students, who
will engage with classmates and teachers each school day. Parents, students,
and teachers will be required to submit a signed daily log of activities. A
semester-long commitment will be required, with the option to remain in
MySchool Remote or return to in-person, onsite instruction at the end of the
semester.
c) Education Imagine Academy: Virtual.
In this option, students will participate in Wichita Public Schools’ K-12 full-time
virtual school that provides flexibility in schedule and individualized pacing.
Education Imagine Academy will be the student’s base school. Technology
devices will be provided to students, and learning pace and timeline completion
will be flexible. A semester-long commitment will be required, with the option to
remain in Education Imagine Academy or return to in-person, onsite instruction at
the end of the semester.
Parents will be asked to decide which option they want for their children. A meeting is scheduled for July 30th to finalize a return to school plan.
If there is a surge in coronavirus cases, the school district will be moving to a system for full remote learning.
