The Kansas Department of Corrections said Friday a staff member at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility has tested positive for COVID-19.
The staff member is a man over the age of 20. No other details have been released. The facility began a mandatory mask order on July 3rd for staff and on July 6th for residents at the facility.
The living unit where the staff member worked will be in quarantine for the next 14 days, and testing will be conducted. Health officials will also conduct contact tracing to find out who was in close contact with the staff member.
This is the seventh KDOC facility with a confirmed case of COVID-19. Cases have also been reported at the Wichita Work Release Facility, the El Dorado Correctional Facility and the Lansing Correctional Facility. Cases were also confirmed at the Topeka Correctional Facility, the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex, and the Ellsworth Correctional Facility.
