Colleges announce schedule changes

Wichita State University and Butler Community College have announced changes for class schedules as a result of ongoing issues with the coronavirus pandemic.

Butler Community College has moved up the start of classes for the fall semester to August 10th, one week earlier than originally scheduled.   The fall break in October has been canceled and and final exams will be held on November 24th.    In a press release, the college revealed plans to have in-person classes in the fall, and masks will be required.  Butler’s vice president of academics, Lori Winningham, said the university is ready to go completely remote again if necessary, but it’s hoped that won’t be the case.

Wichita State University has made some changes for the spring semester in 2021.   There will be an online pre-session in January for one, two and four-week classes, and the regular spring semester will begin February 1st, about two weeks later than usual.  There will be a hybrid of online and in-person classes with the semester ending on May 6th and finals scheduled for May 8th through the 13th.   Commencement will be held May 15th, but that could change depending on health and safety guidelines that are in effect at that time.    The changes were announced by WSU executive vice president Rick Muma in a letter to faculty and staff.
