The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says a new cluster of Covid-19 has been linked to a gathering at Lake Perry near Topeka.

KDHE Secretary Dr. Lee Norman says that over the weekend, the Shawnee County Health Department began investigating 10 new cases of Covid-19.  The cases were linked to a mass gathering that was held at Lake Perry between May 2 to May 10.

That gathering was in violation of the statewide stay-at-home order which was still in place at the time.  20 people are now in self-quarantine and it’s unknown if they may have spread the virus on to others.

The infections have also forced the closure of the Topeka Police Department’s Cadet Recruit Academy.  Dr. Norman says at least half of all infections and many of the deaths in Kansas have been linked back to clusters.

Anyone who may have been at Lake Perry between May 2 to May 10 has likely been exposed to the virus.  They are urged to contact their medical provider as soon as possible.
