Kansas corrections officials say they are moving all inmates at the Wichita Work Release Facility to the Lansing Correctional Facility because of the coronavirus.
Sedgwick County manager Tom Stolz said Wednesday that a jump in cases of COVID-19 was primarily due to a cluster of cases at the work release facility. The number of cases in the county went up from 471 Tuesday to 507 on Wednesday. The number went up to 527 on Thursday, but the number of deaths remained the same at 20.
The Kansas Department of Corrections was planning to move around 100 men to Lansing, where they will be placed in quarantine or isolated. Testing began this week at the work release facility, and corrections officials determined that the current housing situation there was not working.
