The Wichita Public Schools plans to have programs online during the summer to support students, and the programs will be available by open enrollment or by invitation aimed at specific students.
Elementary and middle school students will have access to learning programs such as Lexia, iReady and Dreambox. Students will receive a Summer Suitcase program for support, and it will include hands-on educational activities.
High school summer school classes will be offered online in government and financial literacy. The summer P.E. program will not be offered. High school learning centers will provide online support for students who need to complete credit through July.
Discussions are underway on a Summer Latchkey program, and more information will be announced later. A Summer Food Program will offer free breakfasts and lunches to children from 1 to 18 years of age at nine locations in Wichita. Information on food programs after June 30th will be provided later.
The school district is looking to start fall classes on August 13th, but there are still questions to be answered by the state of Kansas and local health officials. The district plans to have an update on fall classes at the end of June.
