The latest figures from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment show there are now 6,501 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Kansas.

That’s an increase of 357 since Thursday.  There are also 5 new deaths, bringing the total to 152 since the virus first appeared in Kansas.

The new cases in the state are due to the increased testing that has been completed that is giving authorities a clearer picture of how widespread the virus is in Kansas.  It does not necessarily reflect a continued jump in infections.

Ford County has now surpassed all counties in the state with the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 at 1,027.  Wyandotte County has the second highest number with 1,001.

Leavenworth is now at 907.  Finney has 677 and Seward has 668 cases.  The state has been conducting increased testing in Kansas counties where the state’s meatpacking industry is concentrated in an effort to help keep the supply chain operating.

Johnson County has 583 cases.  Sedgwick County has 454 cases with 263 recoveries.

Reno County is now reporting 52 cases, with the rest of the counties surrounding Sedgwick unchanged since Thursday.  Lyon County is the only other Kansas county with over 200 cases with 323.
