Spirit Aerosystems has announced plans to reduce its workforce in Wichita and other locations because of a drop in demand for commercial aircraft.
The company has submitted a notice to the state of Kansas under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) of layoffs that will affect around 1,450 hourly and salaried employees in Wichita. The layoffs are expected to begin May 15th.
Smaller reductions are planned at other Spirit locations that work on commercial aircraft.
