The U.S. Attorney for Kansas, Stephen McAllister, said Monday that the state will receive $6 million in federal grants from the Department of Justice to address public safety challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic.
The grant is from the recent stimulus bill signed by President Trump, and it falls under the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding program. The state will also receive $3.2 million for local jurisdictions across the state.
McAllister said the funding can be used in a number of activities to prevent, prepare for and respond to the coronavirus. The funding can cover overtime, supplies like gloves, masks and sanitizer, and medical needs of inmates in prisons, jails and detention centers.
