Suspect caught in Wichita, two boys safe after Nebraska AMBER Alert

UPDATE from KFDI and the Associated Press:

Two young boys who were the subject of an urgent Amber alert out of eastern Nebraska Monday have been found safe near Wichita.

An Amber alert was issued Monday morning in Nebraska for the two boys, ages 7 and 4, who were taken from Tekamah, police said. The alert was later extended to Kansas.

Tekamah Police Chief Dan Jacobs says the man accused of taking the boys was a step-grandparent.  The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Offfice tells KFDI News he was caught and arrested at 71st Street South and Ridge Road.

The boys appear to have been unharmed.

An AMBER Alert has been issued in Nebraska and Kansas for two children who were forcibly taken from their home in Nebraska.

The Nebraska State Patrol said 7-year-old Marco De La Garza and 4-year-old Isaac De La Garza were taken from their home in Tekamah, which is in eastern Nebraska.

The suspect is 30-year-old Tanner Joel Leichleiter.  He is known to carry a handgun and is considered to be armed.

Nebraska officials said Leichleiter may be traveling south on Highway 81 into Kansas.  He was driving a white, 2009 model Ford Expedition with a Nebraska license plate of 31-F325

Anyone with information should call 911 or 1-800-KS-CRIME.
