The latest figures from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment show there are now 1,166 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Kansas.

That is an increase of 60 since Thursday afternoon.  50 people have now died from the virus in the state.

Numbers are expected to continue to rise as more testing is available statewide.  In Sedgwick County, there are now 172 confirmed cases of Covid-19.

Wyandotte county is approaching the 300 mark with 296 cases.  The number of new cases in Johnson County appears to be slowing down with 262, an increase of just 10 since Thursday.

The mortality rate in Kansas is at around 4.2% which is higher than the current national mortality rate of around 3.8%, based on numbers from the state and national figures from Johns Hopkins University.   The worldwide mortality rate is at nearly 6 percent.

The vast majority of those infected with Covid-19 do recover.  However, it’s not known yet what long-term health issues those who contract a severe case of Covid-19 might face.
