Sedgwick County remains under stay-at-home order

Sedgwick County officials say the county is still under a local stay-at-home order even though state lawmakers have revoked Governor Laura Kelly’s ban on religious gatherings of ten or more people.

The county’s public health officer, Dr. Garold Minns, issued an order that limits all public gatherings to groups of ten or less, and that includes in-person religious services.  The order is in place until April 23rd.

The Legislative Coordinating Council voted Wednesday to overturn the governor’s order to restrict the size of religious gatherings.   Kansas attorney general Derek Schmidt had said earlier that the governor’s order is likely in violation of the state constitution.   Governor Kelly said her legal staff is reviewing the matter.

The county is still under the Governor’s Executive Order from March 30th that calls for people to stay at home except for essential needs such as grocery shopping, medical and veterinary appointments and caring for family members.   Businesses that are determined to be non-essential are not allowed to be open.  This order is in place until April 19th.
