DED frontman Joe Cotela called me to catch up this week, and for whatever reason, it takes a disaster for the two of us to talk. Last time we hung out, there were tornadoes at Rocklahoma, and now we’re in the middle of a Pandemic. (Next time, we’re talking during perfect weather.)

DED released a micro-EP recently, “Mannequin Eyes,” featuring two tracks, “Mannequin Idol (Lullaby)” and “Eyes Sewn Shut.” Both tracks will appear on their unnamed sophomore full-length album. However, it seems due to the Coronavirus, that album may be delayed on its release.

“It’s still good to get some new stuff out for people to listen to,” Joe said.

The album was produced by legendary metal record man Kevin Churko, who has worked with Ozzy, Five Finger Death Punch, and In This Moment, who recently released their record “Mother,” that also has a track featuring Cotela called “Hunting Grounds.”

“We were both in the studio about the same time, and that just kind of came together organically,” he said. “I’m so proud of that song, honored to be on a track with them and Maria. It’s amazing.

“She’s a visionary beyond things I’ve seen other…. she’s brilliant.”

DED was supposed to be on the road with In This Moment and Black Veil Brides, but with the Pandemic, are currently grounded in their homes. Joe is working on putting together some social media events for fans to enjoy while they aren’t on the road.

We also talked about reflection, and self-work while staying at home right now.

Full Interview can be heard above, visualizers for “Mannequin Idol (Lullaby),” “Eyes Sewn Shut”, and his appearance with In This Moment in “Hunting Grounds” can be seen below.
