A Wichita Police officer is okay after they were struck by a suspect fleeing in a stolen car.

It happened around 8:40 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of West 2nd Street.  Police were checking on a stolen vehicle at the address.

One officer began confronting an 18-year-old man in front of the home who was yelling while the other officer tried to contact the woman who was driving the stolen car, attempting to back it into the driveway of the house.  As the officer approached, the woman put the car into forward and struck the officer.

He landed on the hood before sliding off.  Wichita Police say the other officer who was confronting the 18-year-old man fired shots at the car, believing their partner was being dragged by the vehicle.

The woman was able to get away.  The 18-year-old man was arrested for obstruct and outstanding warrants.

The stolen car was later recovered outside outside a hotel near Kellogg and Webb Road and the woman has not been found.  No one was hurt.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating since shots were fired by an officer, which is standard procedure.
