The historic Vickers Petroleum Service Station in Haysville has been added to the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service.
The station was added to the Register of Kansas Historic Places in August. It’s listed in a sub-category called Roadside Kansas which includes service stations, car dealerships, drive-in restaurants and roadside attractions.
The Vickers Station at 140 North Main was built in 1954 and it’s the first service station in the U.S. to feature the architectural “bat-wing” design.
