KBI wraps up investigation into Rooks County murder

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation says an Inman man committed a homicide in Rooks County and later committed suicide.

The body of 56-year-old Mark Reif was found in his home near Plainville on September 9th, and deputies found that he died from several gunshot wounds.

KBI agents talked to 47-year-old Jon Flowers of Inman on September 11th and 12th, and search warrants were served at his home.   On September 14th, Rice County deputies were sent to Flowers’ home when he did not show up for work, and he was found dead.   An autopsy found that Flowers had committed suicide.

The KBI said a suicide note was found in Flowers’ home that claimed responsibility for the murder of Reif.  Forensic testing also found that a cartridge case from the murder scene was fired from a pistol belonging to Flowers.  A bullet removed from Reif during an autopsy was also found to have been fired from that pistol.

There is no word on a motive, and the KBI says the investigation is being closed.
