“What’s the matter kid? Don’t ya like Clowns?”

No quote will ever send chills up my spine like that one, delivered by Sig Haig as “Captain Spaulding” in The Devil’s Rejects. Sadly, the horror movie community lost Haig on Saturday. He was 80 years old.

Haig was recently admitted to the hospital for an unspecified “accident,” and no further details were revealed.

Known to most of us as “Captain Spaulding” from “House of 1000 Corpses,” “The Devil’s Rejects,” and the latest Rob Zombie film “Three from Hell,” Haig was also a staple in Hollywood with roles in George Lucas’ “THX 1138,” “Jackie Brown” and “Kill Bill: Volume Two.”

Haig’s wife, Susan L. Oberg, posted a moving tribute on Instagram Monday, “He has returned to the Universe, a shining star in her heavens,” with a photo of their hands together.

Director friend Rob Zombie, also posting a tribute to the late actor – one of his favorites to work with.

“Hooray for Captain Spaulding! Gone but not forgotten.”
