A Wichita man has been sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for a fatal shooting that happened last year.
24-year-old Douglas Pete had pleaded guilty to second degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm and interference with law enforcement. He was sentenced to 187 months in prison.
Pete was arrested after the February 24th, 2018 shooting death of 25-year-old Deonte “Bud” Mitchell. Police said Mitchell was shot while leaving a party at a home in the 1600 block of South Faulders. A witness reported hearing two shots and seeing Pete pointing a handgun. Pete later claimed the shooting was an accident.
Pete apologized to Mitchell’s family during his sentencing hearing on Friday, but he did not provide a motive for the killing.
