Suspect found dead after questioning in Rooks County homicide

A man who was questioned in a fatal shooting in Rooks County was later found dead at his home, and investigators say he appeared to have committed suicide.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said Monday that agents had interviewed 47-year-old Jon Flowers of Inman, and search warrants were served at his home.  Flowers was questioned on the evening of September 11th and again the next day.

On Saturday, September 14th, deputies from the Rice County sheriff’s office were sent to Flowers’ home when he did not show up for work, and he was found dead inside the home.   Preliminary results of an autopsy indicated that he had committed suicide.

Investigators were questioning Flowers about the September 9th shooting death of 56-year-old Mark Reif, who was found dead inside his home in rural Rooks County.

The KBI said it’s believed that Flowers acted alone in Reif’s murder, and there is no indication that the killing was random.   The investigation is continuing and no other details have been released.
