Korn premiered a new song “Cold” off the upcoming “The Nothing” album, and fans of the band’s early days might like what they hear.

The opening harkens back to early Korn, with a dissonant, heavy bang on the guitars. Then Jonathan opens his mouth, and unleashes a scatty string of lyrics:

“They come for me, discomforting
They make me feel like I’m one step away
From doing it, I’m through with it
I can’t do it, suffer, can’t get to it
They come for me, discomforting
They make me feel like I’m one step away
From doing it, I’m through with it
I can’t do it, suffer, can’t get to it”

Then, after a clean verse, JD goes WAY back, pulling out a guttural voice from the depths of the early 2000’s era for the pre-chorus:

“Inside lying deep, the father of hate
The endless nightmare I can never escape
The broken in flames, they call out my name
They dance in my dreams while I scream out in pain”

The Chorus, and clean verses are more reminiscent of modern Korn, but overall, “Cold” has a very familiar feel to the early days of Korn, but also a new, modern feel to it.

Check out the visualizer video below. “The Nothing” will be released Sept. 13.
