The Kansas Lottery is starting four self-service vending machine locations in Topeka as part of a pilot project, and more are planned across the state.
The Kansas Legislature approved a bill in 2018 to allow the Lottery to sell traditional style lottery tickets through vending machines. The first pilot site was installed Wednesday at John’s Food Center in Topeka. Other sites will include Kansas Lottery headquarters, Gage Center Bowl and West Ridge Lanes.
The Kansas Lottery plans to roll out 272 machines to select retailers across the state beginning in July. Up to $8 million of the net profit from the machines will go to mental health programs throughout Kansas.
