There’s a few things we know leading up to the new Tool album.

Fact: New Tool Album IS coming this year.

Fact: Danny Carey may have let it slip they are eyeing mid-April for its release.

Fact: Principle recording is done.

Fact: Maynard loves his vineyard and winery more than any of us.

So now that everyone’s on high alert status, every little thing Tool does will be under the microscope. Monday, someone noticed they uploaded video with new imagery to their website, some of which, you can see below.

But here’s the thing… it means nothing. We know new music is coming, we know the album is imminent. All this does is confirm they’re getting ready for it. Every single band on the planet does this. They re-brand to cater specifically to their new album. Color scheme, imagery, videos, whatever… it all changes to reflect their upcoming album and tour. So Tool is doing nothing out of the ordinary from any other band… except they aren’t any other band.

It’s been more than a decade since we’ve heard new music from them. Arguably, one of the most sought-after bands on the planet. They’re elusive, creepy, intriguing. Metal heads love them just as much as jazz enthusiasts. This band has something for everyone. And to cap it all off, one of the strangest, yet relatable frontmen on the planet. He KNOWS he’s in this huge band, but just wants to be left alone about it. He’d rather focus on his other, smaller (probably more fun) projects right now, and who could blame him?

But now, the time has come. The stars have aligned, and we are on the cusp of a new Tool record. My only fear, is that it will only be released in physical form. I don’t own a CD player anymore. All of my music is either vinyl or digital.

The bottom line… does this new video imagery mean anything special? No. It just confirms that Tool is ready for a new album. At the very least, it gives us an idea what the cover art might look like. But, that doesn’t make me any less excited to hear it!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go find my discman.
