Is it possible the Grammy’s committee heard our outrage in how they handle the Rock and Metal categories? This year’s nominees seem kind of well thought out (with some exceptions of course).

BUT, more importantly… NO KANYE! In fact, I didn’t see a single Kanye nod in the entire list, which makes me even happier.

Greta’s up for Best New Artist against Luke Combs, Bebe Rexha, Dua Lipa, and a bunch of other people I’ve never heard of. GNR will HOPEFULLY win best Box Set or special issue with “Appetite For Destruction: Locked and Loaded” edition. They’re up against Weird Al Yankovic and the Decembrists there.

In the Rock and Metal categories, you could argue for or against Twenty One Pilots in Best Rock Song, but St. Vincent’s “Masseducation” is straight up NuWave music. If it wins, I will riot.

Metal category looks good, Rock Performance is interesting, since Chris Cornell hasn’t performed in over a year (obvious reasons), and to my knowledge, never performed “When Bad Does Good,” but he could win with the sympathy vote.

Rock Album… I get why Fall Out Boy is in there, but I pray it doesn’t win. That nod should DEFINITELY go to Alice in Chains “Rainier Fog.” Hands down, my favorite overall album of 2018.

Those are just my thoughts though. Check out the full list of nominees below.

BEST ROCK SONG – NOMINEES:

MEATBALL’S PREDICTION – I’d love to see Ghost get their second Grammy, or BMTH snag their first, but I think it’ll be close between Twenty One Pilots and Greta. And because the Greta song they chose wasn’t a big single… Twenty One Pilots (unfortunately) might take this one. Hopefully the Committee surprises me and picks Ghost.

BEST ROCK PERFORMANCE:

MEATBALL’S PREDICTION: Pretty solid choices, but this comes down to Greta or Chris Cornell. Do they award popularity, or nostalgia/sympathy? I’m guessing Sympathy, and Chris Cornell takes it. Not to mention.. it’s just an incredible song, and to hear his voice again feels so good.

BEST ROCK ALBUM – NOMINEES:
Alice in Chains – “Rainier Fog”
Fallout Boy – “M A N I A”
Ghost – “Prequelle”
Greta Van Fleet – “From the Fires”
Weezer – “Pacific Daydreams”

MEATBALL’S PREDICTION: My personal choice is Alice in Chains. “Rainier Fog” was beautifully done, front to back. Classic AIC, but with an extra “something” added to it. My close second would be “Prequelle” since I listen to it at least once a week. But given the track record of the Grammy committee… It’ll probably be Greta. Which, don’t get me wrong, was a fantastic record… but it just didn’t have that cohesive element to it like the other two.

BEST METAL PERFORMANCE – NOMINEES:
Between the Buried and Me – “Condemned to the Gallows”
Deafheaven – “Honeycomb”
High on Fire – “Electric Messiah”
Trivium – “Betrayer”
Underoath – “On My Teeth”

MEATBALL’S PREDICTION: Nergal from Behemoth torches the place… awards show, over.
