  • Beware! it is Friday the 13th!!

...Have you ever wondered how Friday the 13th became (at least in Western folklore) a day that many consider strange...unlucky...or perhaps even spooky?.....There are several prominent theories regarding it....for example, in numerology the number 12 is considered the number of completeness.....hence 12 months per year....12 hours of the clock...12 gods of Olympus....12 tribes of Israel....12 apostles...etc etc......whereas the number 13 is considered to be irregular....a transgression so to speak, of this completeness.....some claim this goes all the way back to the last supper in that having 13 people at a table is bad luck and will result in the doom of one of the 13 people...the concept of Friday being an unlucky day traces it's roots back to the 14th century when many believed Friday was a bad day to begin a journey or trek.....there is even a connection between Friday the 13th and the Knights Templar.......whatever the case may be.......welcome to Friday the 13th and God Speed!!! • Who writes the best lyrics???

.....Whenever i get into discussions with people about music, it almost always always centers around the musicians themselves and it almost always comes down to who is a better guitarist.....or vocalist.......rarely does it come down to lyrics.....and to be honest to me lyrics are primarily what attracts me to a particular artist......you simply can not beat a good lyracist and when you find one that is outstanding.....you follow their work religiously.....there are just certain acts/bands/artists that write lyrics that simply get inside of you....become a part of you so to speak......it's different for everyone....we all have our own blueprints.....to me there are a couple three artists that come to mind when i think of lyrics that just hit home so to speak.....Pink Floyd comes to mind.......Shinedown.........definitely Seether.......whose lyrics to do you find addictive? thanks for stopping by...............Rick

  • Who would you like to see play the halftime show at the Superbowl?

......Rumors have been running rampant that.....are you ready for this?........Van Halen may be playing the halftime show at the Superbowl in Feb 2013........David Lee Roth recently said this about it...."I am compelled to address the now rampant rumors that Van Halen is playing the Superbowl... First of all let me say this....be still my pigskin heart....that honor has not been bestowed upon us at this time though it is one we would accept in a NY minute."......I have to admit that would be awesome!....I guess we will have to wait and see! Thank you as always for stopping by.....Rick

  • It's that time!!!!! All Stars on the horizon!!!!

....Tonight it's the Home Run Derby......tonight I will plant myself at my favorite neighborhood pub....grab a cold bud light....and partake in the annual observation of the All Star Game Home Run Derby festivities!!!....even if you are not a baseball fan....the Home Run Derby rocks.....baseball's biggest and baddest heavy hitters taking main stage and flexing their muscle....Robinson Cano will be back to defend his title (he won in 2011).....I for one can not wait!!!!...and then of course tomorrow night it's the All Star Classic....as the best of the American and National leagues square off for home field rights at the World Series.....I love this time of year!!!!! thanks for stopping by....Rick

  • Have you ever just "bumped" into a celebrity?

....A friend and I were talking just the other day about famous people we have ran into during the course of our daily lives......don't get me wrong it's not as if I hang out with major celebs on a daily basis.....far from it as a matter of fact lol.....but it did remind me of one time years ago when something completely unexpected occurred and I for one will never forget it...I was living in Kansas City at the time.....this had to be around 2000 or so...i would frequent a pub called "the Quaff"....it is located on 10th and Broadway in KC...I still go there to this day whenever I am in Kansas City....I stopped by there after work one Friday night......it was 12:30 or so and the place was packed....some friends of mine were already there and were sitting in a booth waiting for me...i joined them....ordered a Bud Light.....and settled into the booth....5 min later i feel this tap on my shoulder and i look up...this dude dressed in a trench coat with a stocking cap on....unshaven for several days it appeared.....almost looked homeless i swear....says to me...".mind if i join you guys.?...there's no other seats open."....I thought what the hell the more the merrier and i slid over so he could grab a seat......for the next hour we all had a few beers.....chatted about everything under the sun....sports.....girls.......the usual stuff guys will talk about over a beer.....then out of the blue it hit me like a ton of bricks.....this dude looked really familiar....it had been bothering me since he sat down.....i just couldnt place it........but when I finally did it hit me like a truck.....Keanu Reeves had joined us for a beer and we had been chatting with him all night....he was in town because he had a band and they had just finished a gig about two blocks away....apparently he decided to just walk downtown and go into the first bar he saw open.....I was doing shots with Neo....definitely not something that happens every day .... no one else there recognized him and we all kept it under our hats out of respect for his privacy.....just goes to show you never know who you may run into at any given time!!! thanks for stopping by.......Rick

  • New Orleans...or Vegas?....which would you choose?

....am currently in the process of trying to figure out where I wanna go this summer.....New Orleans or Las Vegas......I mean they both have their ups and downs...plusses and negatives so to speak....New Orleans has the French Quarter.....outstanding food.....night life that is off da hook!!!...not to mention the history of that city.....but Vegas is.....well .... Vegas....I mean where else in the world can you get a ribeye steak cooked just the way you like it....a lap dance from a girl that walked out of the pages of Playboy....a martini that would make Sinatra more than proud.....and a single roll of the dice that could net you thousands....all at 3:30am....perhaps I will just have to flip a coin........thanks for stopping by! Rick

  • Something HUGE happened on this day!

.....July 2nd..........most of us of course are very familiar with what happened on July 4th 1776.....America let the British know she would not be ruled/governed/instructed by anyone or anything.....and hence forth declared independence......as a result July 4th has become a date that is permanently ingrained within the mind frame of all Americans.....as it should be.....however do you know what occured on July 2nd, 1964?......something that also inpmactfully shaped this nation....something that was long overdue....something that as a nation we can be proud of.....on July 2nd 1964, Lyndon Johnson, the 36th President of the United States of America, signed into law the Civil Rights Act.....an historic piece of legislation that outlawed major forms of discrimination....it also ended racial segregation in schools....the bill was initiated by President Kennedy...signed into law by Johnson....To me it is things of this nature that make me proud to be an American...it is things like this that make this country great....thank you for stopping by as always......Rick

  • The 2012 Olympic Games are Almost Here!!

....Being a huge sports fan it is only natural for me to get excited about the Olympic Games 2012....they will begin In London during the last week of July.....I guess it's not as much the actual games as it is the stories behind the athletes that I find incredible....for example the ten year old boy who literally learned to swim on his back because he was afraid to put his head under water...he was ridiculed relentlessly as a child because of it......we know him as Michael Phelps....I would think he is getting the last laugh now......there are so many of these types of stories behind so many athletes involved in the Olympic Games.....I have a tremendous amount of respect for all of the athletes worldwide who make it to the Olympic Games.....simply getting there is such a HUGE accomplishment.....the endless training....the discipline it takes...they have to live eat and breathe what they are doing....24 hrs a day....for years and years at a time...and even then there are those that do so and still don't make the cut.......the dedication these athletes have to their craft is nothing short of incredible.....my hat is off to each and every one of them.....and I look forward to seeing them compete in about 3 weeks !!! thanks for stopping by Rick

  • What's your favorite firework?

.....The 4th of July right around the corner!!!! what would you say is your personal favorite firework?....there really is no right or wrong answer...I mean we all have our favorites....I prefer the classic Saturn Missile Battery.....it's unpredictability and multiple explosions absolutely rock!....of course there is always the good old Roman Candle....cant go wrong with it.....or even just the standard black cats.....and of course don't forget about the parachutes....they rock as well!....I admit I do miss bottle rockets......anyways whatever your favorite is, be safe and have fun over the 4th....that's what holidays are for!! Rick

  • How hot have you been?

...Oh those dog days of Summer!!!!...what is the hottest temperature you have ever experienced anywhere?.....when you think about it for a second.....yes it is hot here....it's definitely no picnic...but believe me there are far hotter places on Earth......Libya has been known to experience temps of over 130 F........that is insane!!!....Ethiopia has been known to hit 120 consistently....parts of South Africa have been known to hit 122 F.....Iraq 125 F .....if not hotter.......I can not imagine that!!!!! Death Valley Ca has registered temps of 134 F......luke i said.....we don't have it as bad as some do that's for sure!!! thanks for stopping by as always...........Rick

  • Who will be the next college football champs?

....Perhaps you already are aware of this....then again maybe you aren't.....The NCAA has approved a college football playoff format to determine the national champions (FINALLY!)....it will go into effect in 2014....I don't know all of the specifics but I do know it involved a 4 team playoff...basiclally the top 4 teams will end up competing for the national title....I like this idea primarily because of the obvious.....It will eliminate the what ifs and the ties......it will give the Boise States of the world so to speak the oppurtunity to prove themselves worthy of a national title...as compared to going unbeaten and not getting a shot......and of course the flip side is that it will give the perrenial contenders (the Alabama's....Oklahomas.....LSU's...etc) a chance to prove to the world they really can beat anyone......I am a HUGE fan of the traditional college football bowls and never wanna see those go away......which is yet another reason i like the 4 team playoff....in doing so they will easily be able to keep the current bowl system, in tact....I am nothing short of excited about the new format and can not wait till they get it under way! Hope to see you out and about soon.......Rick

  • Hot enough for you yet?

Rick

  • What do you think of Linkin Park?

.....Welcome to Monday!!!!!! I for some odd reason have always actually liked Mondays....maybe it's because of the generally laid back nature of Monday....that and Monday Night Raw!!!....over the weekend every time I was in my car I listened to the new Linkin Park full length.....and let me tell you....IT IS GOOOOOOD!......I would have to say it's some of their best work in ten years......and no I am not kidding.....Red White and You is comming along well and I for one can not wait to launch it at 3pm Monday July 2nd!!!......hope to see you out and about soon! Rick

  • Been to Miami lately?

.....Well the Miami Heat are world champions.....Lebron finally got his ring.....I did watch last night on and off.....and watched enough to tell you there was no way Miami was going to lose game 5 last night...no way....love em or hate em you have to admit they were beyond focused and determined......therefore you have to take your hats off to them....I will be at Pleasures tomorrow night so by all means come out and say hi! will be there 9-11pm broadcasting live and of course partaking in the debauchery!!!.....hope to see you soon! Rick

  • Learn something cool! click here!

....A recent top ten list was released after numerous scientists/animal experts where polled and this is what it consists of: " The Top Ten Deadliest Animals in the World"..... here we go!

  • click here if you are not fond of politics

....I realize that we have yet to even really begin with the 2012 Presidential election yet I am already tired of the hype that surrounds it....the constant grandstanding on both sides....I once asked Willie Nelson (seriously I ran into him in Minnesota back in 2001 or so) whether or not he liked the President (Bush i believe at the time).....his answer was....."well i certainly wouldn't want his job.".......and quite frankly nor would I.....I mean think about it....no matter which side of the fence you stood on....no matter which side of the argument you took......there willl be a large coningency who simply and strongly dis like you for your decision.....I am not a believer in "no win" scenarios....but I gotta think being the leader of the free world certainly would have major drawbacks....I can not imagine what it must be like to go to work every day knowing the kind of task that lie before you as President.....regardless of who is in office....dem or republican.....I have to feel for them.....just look at how that job ages those that have it....Obama looks at least ten years older than he did 3 years ago.......it's not that I necessarily hate politics.....I realize they are a necessary evil.....It's just that when it comes to the posititon of President.....I think I am with Willie.....thanks for stopping by..........................Rick

  • What Scares You Most?

...It was on this day (June 19) 1975 that Jaws was released....Jaws was the very first full length movie I ever saw.....I didn't see it till like a year after it's release......My dad took us kids to the drive in to see it and I do recall sitting in a lawn chair with my popcorn and soda......scared to death!!!...to this day sharks scare the hell outta me!!! (that and clowns....but that's another blog)....there was just something about the way they shot that film.....even today I still find it eerie as all get out....I realize of course it lacks the effects and the visual candy that alot of today's films offer....but it is still one of the scariest films I have ever watched.........I STILL will not swim in the ocean because of it! anyways I hope you are having a great day! Rick

  • Your thoughts on Tim Tebow?

...Tim Tebow recently stated (while speaking on Father's Day at Qualcomm Stadium in front of over 25000 people) that professional sports does a poor job of providing good examples....he went on to say that "if we could come together and be great role models, it would be amazing to see how the next generation turns out."......I am quite sure he will catch some heat for this....and he will also gain some credible support as well....While I don't know that I totally agree with this particular synopsis, I have always been a Tim Tebow fan......Lord knows not because he is a NY Jet....and to be honest not because of his faith and beliefs.....I have nothing at all against his religious belief structure and I have nothing at all against his open display of such beliefs.....What does make me a Tim Tebow fan is simply this......he is the quintessential true competitor.....he doesn't know the meaning of the word quit and to put it bluntly....he flat out has heart.....and...here is a big one....one you don't see often......he compells people around him to compete above thier abilities....and you do not see that often at all....just watch how his teamates react around him.....his drive is nothing short of contagious.....he knows he doesn't have the natural skills that many other qbs are blessed with....he knows he is no Peyton Manning.....no Drew Brees...etc.......but what I love about Tebow is the fact that he also knows they are not him....and he brings things to the table that are extremely rare in nature.....EVERY single time he get's a shot at playing he believes beyond all get out that he will find a way to succeed....and NO ONE can tell him any different.....does he always? of course not....but that does not deter him from believing....do I agree with him on his role model statement?....yes and no....not to straddle the fence...but I see both sides of that issue....I can totally see Tebow's side of it.....and yet I also see the side of it that says athletes are not necessarily paid to be role models....yes it may be the nice thing to do...the right thing in a sense....but is it really their responsibility?....anyways thanks for stopping by! Rick
